As a Reiki practitioner, your self care is my highest priority.
Deciding to try Reiki is based on need whether it is physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. And while the need shows up as a healing opportunity, what I find most true is the need for self care.
While Reiki provides an ideal foundation for self care–relaxing your mind/body–it is like every other form of self care: a piece of the puzzle.
Self care can definitely be scheduled into your calendar such as monthly Reiki, massage, therapy, spa visits, etc…But what I have found is that the most effective self care is one that is all-encompassing.
What I mean is that your self care has no limitations and is in fact your life’s daily priority.
Your self care depends on you focusing on your fulfillment. Attaining and maintaining feeling good in your body, mind, heart, and spirit is self care.
I get asked quite frequently about my own self care. Although my Reiki practice emphasizes caring for others, directing my energy to really caring about myself and my needs adds deep meaning and purpose to my daily living including my Reiki practice.
For the sake of your healing, the hunger to lead a full and joyous life, let’s imagine that whatever you are going through has everything to do with you really caring about yourself. Let’s also imagine that any external expectation or pressure for what you should do, be, give, or have does not exist in your reality.
Now, with these two possibilities in place, I hope that you can begin a daily self care practice that starts with your awareness of your consciousness.
If you’re looking for help on getting started with your self care toolkit, I’m happy to share some resources!
Spiritual Self Care
There’s nothing more important for your spiritual self care than becoming aware of your consciousness. Commit to a meditation practice where your intention is to reach your true self, which is your consciousness. Your consciousness is the infinite you and has the infinite qualities of love, peace, harmony, graciousness, compassion, non-judgment, playfulness, creativity, curiosity, and expansion.
I understand that I have suggested something you may perceive as impossible. If meditation is challenging for you, you can certainly begin your consciousness awareness with Reiki.
Heart Self Care
Embracing your emotions and your feelings is self care. Everyone feels emotional ups and downs, however, it’s important to allow your feelings to be. You are here as a human being to feel so, so much. Emotional honesty provides the means for your growth, and it also creates you into a more empathetic human being. Become intentional with your heart with journaling, spending time with loved ones, and cultivating a state of non-judgment and forgiveness.
Mind Self Care
I believe creativity and curiosity keep the mind expansive, flexible, and resilient. Take care of your mind with playful education. Try new things (no limitations), explore new places, read, and meditate.
Body Self Care
The key to caring for your body is to set the intention to align your body with your consciousness. This way, you know that your highest energy comes from your consciousness, and caring for your body becomes easier. Have you noticed that when you’re feeling good and flowing, it’s easier and even joyful to take care of your body? Focus on your consciousness first, and your body will follow. Taking care of your body is unique to you, however, there are some general things that all bodies need: sleep, hydration, movement, and nutrition.
Lastly, I want you to consider your self care as essential to creating a better life and a better world around you. When your self care is centered on love, peace, and harmony, that is who you become.
