Awakening Your Divine Potential
Book Recommendation by Erica Wallace Moore
Have you ever been amazed by something you have done, or who you have become? A teacher, nurse, artist, therapist, coach, mother, or even runner? Or have you wondered why you are drawn to a cause that you feel so passionate about that your life is centered around it?
In Sacred Contracts, Caroline Myss (pronounced mace) uses the Jungian archetypes to describe that each of us lives according to these personality contracts and they are divinely designed to help us learn, grow, and connect with others.
Archetypal patterns awaken in us in our own divine potential. They can liberate us from the limitations of our thoughts and feelings. They can help us shed light on the dark or little-known corners of our souls and amplify our own brilliance and strengths. Archetypes are a source of emotional, physical, and spiritual power and can help us free ourselves from fear.
Through her work and research as a medical intuitive, Myss believes there to be 12 archetypes working within each of us. However, each of us has 4 principle archetypes of survival: Child, Victim, Prostitute, and Saboteur. With these 4 archetypes, Myss asks questions that will help you discover your history as well as paths to your own healing, balance, and transformation.
The other 8 archetypes are unique to each of us, and Myss delivers instructions on how to find out your own archetypes.
A portion of this book is dedicated to the story of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz as a an example to describe the archetypes at play in Dorothy’s journey to return home.
I found Sacred Contracts to be fun work to dive into. Discovering my own archetypes has helped me tremendously to become more aware of the wonder and amazement of who I am and who I am drawn to. In my work as a Reiki practitioner, it’s fascinating to connect to a client’s archetypes and being able to communicate resources for continued healing and self care that resonate with their archetypes.
One of the real treasures of this book is the “The Gallery of Archetypes” Appendix. Myss includes an A to Z profile of archetypes with full descriptions and examples. This appendix is powerful for beginning the work of self discovery, or discovering your relationships and contracts.
